NetInventory Documentation

Getting Started

Overview

The main component of the package is the Collector program, which collects extensive system information and is able to store this information in a central database. This process is called auditing, and takes 15-40 seconds on a typical PC to load, gather data, and record the data to a central database in a login batch file.

Collector does not collect any personal user information. In a network environment, it is important to be able to review password age and other security relevant data of user accounts. UserAudit has been designed to collect relevant Domain Account information for easy auditing.

Other Considerations

Together with MBSA and WSUS, NetInventory provides a good step towards up to date and secure network configuration, as well as the comfort to find certain hardware or software easily.

See the glossary for a description and more information of WSUS and MBSA.
