Install - Checklist
Deployment Checklist
When deploying NetInventory, consider the following steps:
Pre-deployment
- Read the documentation carefully
- Determine hardware/software requirements for the database
Deploying the database
- Create a database using the Collector.mdb file as a starter
- Verify indexes and foreign key constraints were converted
- Establish an authentication/authorization scheme for the database
- Secure the database as appropriate for outsiders, ordinary users, and
administrators
In a lab environment
- Ensure the test machines meet the minimum requirements
- Install the NetInventory client
- Configure the database and other NetInventory options
- Test NetInventory and the database connectivity
- Consider altering/recompiling the NetInventory program to suit your needs
- Save the NetInventory.config file
- Test login batch file
Deploying the client (depends on the installation
scenario)
- Install missing/outdated components on each client
- Configure .Net Security on each client
- Deploy the Collector.exe and the saved NetInventory.config file
- Edit login batch file
- Identify locations where NetInventory should run as a scheduled task
Post deployment
- Check the text-based error log file on a regular basis
- Verify the security of the database
